Reconizing Poverty

What might poverty look like at school?

Children rarely say “I’m poor.”
Poverty shows up through patterns, not labels.

These signs are not about ability or effort.
They reflect unmet needs, instability, and limited access.

Identify poverty when it matters

Look for Signs!
Teachers may notice

  • Ongoing hunger or tiredness

  • Low energy or frequent illness

  • Missing or worn clothing, shoes, or school items

.

Why this happens
